Over 50 historical games and puzzles are included in this hands on exhibit. Throughout
history, almost every culture played games. Archeologists and
anthropologists have documented the game designs and manner of play.
From the Pharaohs and Roman Soldiers, to mountain villages of Nepal,
people improved their intelligence, through the playing of strategy games. Native
Americans, the Maori of New Zealand and Icelandic peoples, all played
games that improved their thinking ability. Through play many skills
are acquired. This exhibit offers students and families the opportunity
to discover and play the games of many cultures. With simple rules
to guide them, children and adults explore strategy games, once played
by the Pharaohs, Vikings, and Apache Indians, as well as games from
every continent. The games are especially well suited to family nights
and all day school use. These games help to create a life long interest
in history and culture. Mathematical thinking skills are improved through the playing of these games.
A Workshop for teachers is also available.
